2011-12 Washington Capitals schedule

The Capitals will open the 2011-12 regular season on Saturday Oct. 8 against Carolina and remain home at Verizon Center to host Tampa Bay on Oct. 10 before traveling to Pittsburgh on Oct. 13.

Washington’s longest homestand is five games, which begins at the end of February, while the Capitals’ longest road trip doesn’t begin until March 13 with a string of five games at Long Island, Winnipeg, Chicago, Detroit and Philadelphia.

Some other notes about the schedule:

--The Capitals will make their trips to face the new Winnipeg team, which is still without a name, on Nov. 17, Dec. 15 and March 16. Winnipeg’s first trip to Verizon Center will be on Nov. 23, the night before Thanksgiving.

--Washington will play 13 sets of back-to-back games.

--The three Western Conference teams that the Capitals will play both home and away are Detroit, San Jose and Nashville.
