Capitals sign prospect Stanislav Galiev to entry-level deal

(John McDonnell - THE WASHINGTON POST)
Forward prospect Stanislav Galiev scooped the Capitals on Twitter today, announcing that he had signed a contract before the team sent out an official release about the three-year, entry-level deal.

“Just sign with Capitals,” the 19-year-old Russian tweeted.

Galiev’s contract is worth an average of $550,000 per season in the NHL.

It wasn’t exactly the scoop of the century that Washington would sign its third-round (86th overall) pick in the 2010 draft. Still, don’t you just love Twitter?

Galiev, who is eligible to return to juniors this year, has been skating almost daily at Kettler Capitals Iceplex for the last several weeks.

The 6-1, 188-pound Moscow native helped lead Saint John of the QMJHL to the Memorial Cup championship last season and set regular-season career highs in goals (37) and points (65).
