The arrival of Mathieu Perreault in Washington will correspond with the Capitals placing a player on injured reserve today, Coach Bruce Boudreau said, although he declined to name who will be unavailable for the near future.
"Soembody that's banged up will go on IR today, you'll be able to read about it," Boudreau said.
Boudreau did say that it wasn't Alexander Semin, who has been hampered by an undisclosed nagging injury at times this season. Along with Semin, Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Knuble were not on the ice at KCI, but Boudreau said it was an optional session and those players elected to take the morning off.
The NHL does not require teams to announce when players are put on the injured reserve list, but it will be readily apparent when the team comes out for warmup at Verizon Center and the active roster against the Maple Leafs is released this evening.
--Michal Neuvirth was the first goaltender off the ice this morning so it looks like he will get the start against Toronto. He and Semyon Varlamov have alternated starts for the past four games as the Capitals finally have a healthy goaltending tandem for the first time this season.
--I'll have another post on Perreault soon, so keep an eye out for that.
