Update: Morrisonn's deal is worth $2.075 million per year.
Unrestricted free agent defenseman Shaone Morrisonn signed a two-year deal with the Buffalo Sabres, the team announced Monday night.
The stay-at-home defenseman earned $1.975 million in Washington last year and appeared in 68 games, finishing with a plus-minus rating of plus-8, a goal and 11 assists. But with the Capitals' burgeoning crop of young blueliners, including John Carlson and Karl Alzner, it appeared that Morrisonn was the odd man out.
All told, Morrisonn spent six years and appeared in 377 games with the Capitals after he was acquired from Boston in 2004 in a trade that sent Sergei Gonchar to the Bruins. The Capitals also received first- and second-round choices in the 2004 draft, that became Jeff Schultz and Mikhail Yunkov, respectively, as part of the trade.
