Joel Ward arrives a hero at Friday’s practice

As the Capitals trickled onto the ice for practice this morning, each player received a warm welcome from spectators here at KCI.

Then, all of a sudden, the place went nuts.

Joel Ward had arrived.

The team’s Game 7 hero got a standing ovation — and a few ‘Woo-hoos’— from the approximately 100 spectators. The players who were on the ice saluted Ward with a round of stick taps.

Ward simply smiled and joined his teammates in their pre-practice warm up skate.

Practice is just underway, but everyone appears to be in attendance.

Here’s how they’re lined up:

Forwards

Ovechkin-Laich-Brouwer

Johansson-Backstrom-Semin

Chimera-Beagle-Hendricks

Knuble-Aucoin-Ward

Perreault-Halpern-Sjogren

All eight defensemen are also present, but they’re not in pairs yet.

Goalies Braden Holtby and Michal Neuvirth are also on the ice.
