Matt Bradley apologizes for comments about Alexander Semin

Matt Bradley said Monday that he had “no business” making critical comments about former Capitals teammate Alexander Semin’s playoff performance and work ethic.

“I wish I could take it back,” Bradley, now a Florida Panther, told the Sun Sentinel. “I apologize for saying it. He’s a great player. It’s one of those things you wish you could take back, but you can’t, so all I could do is apologize and move forward.”

Bradley in July told Ottawa’s TEAM 1200 radio that the Russian sniper “just doesn’t care” and didn’t show up in the Capitals’ second-round sweep at the hands of Tampa Bay.

On Monday, the winger said he hasn’t spoken to Semin since the interview, but that he would try to apologize in person Tuesday when the Panthers visit the Capitals at Verizon Center.

“It wasn’t my place to say anything,” Bradley said. “He’s one of the top players in the league.”

Semin has since defended himself several times, using the opportunity to begin speaking English to the media.
