Mike Green still not ready to return to Capitals’ lineup; Michal Neuvirth will start against Stars

Mike Green skated for roughly an hour this morning, taking part in the morning skate and the extra scratches work afterward, but the defenseman is expected to miss a sixth consecutive game with a right ankle injury Tuesday night.

It's been 17 days since Green twisted his right ankle on Oct. 22 in the first period against the Detroit Red Wings and although his practice time has increased, the Calgary native is still walking with a limp.

Green did not speak to reporters Tuesday.

“I think it’s more now getting him back into game shape before he plays,” Coach Bruce Boudreau said. Asked if it was possible Green could return to the lineup this weekend, Boudreau said, “Right now it is.’

Safe to say, though, that Green’s injury has lingered longer than initially expected.

On to a few other notes from the morning skate at KCI:

— Michal Neuvirth was the first goaltender off the ice, which means he will get the start against the Western Conference leading Dallas Stars.

— Mathieu Perreault took part in the scratches skate with Green and Tomas Vokoun so it looks like he will be the healthy scratch among the forwards. Perreault sat on Friday night during the Capitals’ 5-1 win against the Hurricanes.

The centerman has failed to record a point in his past four games and was a minus-3 in Washington’s 5-3 loss to the Islanders Saturday.
