Mike Green will not play against Oilers

Defensman Mike Green will not play against the Oilers Thursday night after missing four consecutive practices with a twisted right ankle.

Green did not take part in the morning skate and his absence from the lineup means that Sean Collins will get a sweater against Edmonton and will most likely skate in a pairing with Jeff Schultz.

Green suffered the ankle injury late in the first period of Washington’s 7-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings, when he was hit in the jaw by the puck on a dump-in attempt.

Meanwhile, Tomas Vokoun was the first goaltender off the ice at Rexall Place this morning, which is consistent with the 35-year-old’s statement that he will start against the Oilers.

In 21 career appearances against Edmonton, many of which came during his tenure in Nashville at the beginning of his career, Vokoun is 6-10-5 with a 2.89 goals-against average and .897 save percentage.

Michal Neuvirth is out for extra work with the Capitals’ assistant coaches and D.J. King, who will be a healthy scratch in Edmonton.
