This morning at KCI there were signs that Mike Knuble, who hasn’t played since Game 3 against the Rangers because of a suspected right hand injury, might be ready to return to the Capitals lineup. Whether the veteran right wing will play against Tampa Bay tonight remains to be seen, but Knuble will take warmup Coach Bruce Boudreau said.
Boudreau stated that Knuble would take warmup as “an inspiration” but when asked if that meant the 38 year old would not play in Game 2 the coach grew testy.
“I didn’t say anything,” Boudreau said. “I just said he’s here. He’s taking warmup as an inspiration. I told you this morning what I told yous here. Quit asking the question.”
Knuble took part in the morning skate and went off the ice early, with many of the players who expect to suit up for a game on any given night. He didn’t participate in the scratches skate as he did prior to Game 1 on Friday. Also, Matt Hendricks stayed out for roughly 20 minutes of extra work once the rest of the players expected to be on the active roster tonight went to the dressing room.
--On the Tampa Bay side, neither Simon Gagne nor Pavel Kubina will play tonight. In their place the Lightning will dress defenseman Randy Jones and forward Blair Jones.
