Morning roundup: Done with the west coast

The Caps' last journey out west was marked by losses to the Sharks and Kings, so it's probably a relief to be back home in Washington.

Tarik is also happy to be home with his family for the first time in 2010, so to give him a little break, Gene Wang will be covering today's practice. Updates to come.

In the meantime, here's what you may have missed over the weekend, plus a few other odds and ends:

*Tarik spoke to a league source who said the NHL wants the Caps to play in next year's Winter Classic. (Ted hopes so, too.)

*The Caps have several options for the next captain, but if Alex Ovechkin wants it that badly, you've got to give it to him -- right?

*Is Varly hurt? We'll have an update today. ( Tim Leone )

*Caps rap. Ohmygoodness. ( On Frozen Blog )

*The kiddies love Ovechkin. ( Alex Ovetjkin )

*Even though they "borrowed" the headline from our own Caps preview section, the NHL has done a nice job with their "Is This The Year?" campaign. ( Branded )
