Coach Bruce Boudreau was asked during his pre-game media availability whether the Capitals would rest players what with only two games remaining in the regular season and he avoided the question, saying that it was probably something better saved for the next day. As it turns out though, the Capitals will scratch three of their regulars — Jason Arnott, Scott Hannan and Alexander Semin — against the Panthers in the final regular season game at home.
According to the team, all three players are day-to-day. Boudreau said previously that Semin was tending to nagging injuries but that if it were the playoffs the Russian winger would play. It’s unclear if Hannan or Arnott, who previously missed six games with a left knee injury, are suffering from an ailment or are simply getting rest for the post-season.
Based on warm-up here is what the lineup should look like against the Panthers:
Forwards
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
Sturm-Johansson-Fehr
Chimera-Laich-Beagle
Hendricks-Gordon-Bradley
Defense
Alzner-Carlson
Schultz-Collins
Erskine-Sloan
Goal
Varlamov
Neuvirth
Scratches: Jason Arnott, Scott Hannan, Alexander Semin, Dennis Wideman (leg hematoma) and D.J. King.
