Quote of the night from the Capitals’ win over Tampa Bay

If Braden Holtby hadn’t been able to weather the early push from the Lightning in the second period, there’s a good chance Tampa Bay would have put Monday night’s game away in the second period.

But Holtby did make the necessary saves. Perhaps the most improbable one was a blocker save on Simone Gagne just 4:29 into the middle frame but Holtby didn’t want too take too much credit for that stop.

“All I could really see was he had a wide open net and missed it,” Holtby said. “I was just thanking the hockey gods on that one. I got it with my blocker. I’m not sure if it would have went in or not. Thankfully it didn’t go in.”
