Semyon Varlamov set to return to the ice

Semyon Varlamov did not skate today, meaning he's been off the ice for more than a week. But the Caps' future in goal is scheduled to skate on his own tomorrow at KCI.

If the pain and discomfort in his sprained right knee (MCL) is gone and the joint continues to respond favorably over the next couple of days, the hope is that Varlamov will be back in Hershey by the weekend. (He can't participate in a Caps practice until he's on the roster, and right now he's still on the Bears' roster after getting injured during a rehab start.)

Varlamov would then make a couple of starts in the AHL before rejoining the Caps.

This, of course, is a best-case scenario. And because knee sprains are especially difficult for goaltenders, things could change.
