For the first time since he went back on injured reserve with a groin injury in late October, Semyon Varlamov is taking shots in practice with the rest of the Capitals. Varlamov has missed the past seven games with the latest flare up of his groin injury, which initially cut his training camp short and forced him to miss the first four games of the year.
Last week, Varlamov began skating at KCI again and Coach Bruce Boudreau said he hoped the goaltender would be ready to go in a week to 10 days. Varlamov worked on his side-to-side movement in goal and took part in drills with strength-and-conditioning coach Mark Nemish and goaltending coach Arturs Irbe during those sessions.
--Brooks Laich is the only player not on the ice this morning for the Caps. He was held out of the third period against the Flyers Sunday with an upper-body injury. I'll get an update on him after practice.
