Light attendance at Capitals’ optional practice

Washington’s optional practice is underway at KCI, and there isn’t a large group of players on the ice this morning. Of those who played last night, only eight skaters took part in the workout, along with both goaltenders and all of the Capitals who were healthy scratches for Game 1.

Here’s who is on the ice, in no particular order:

Defensemen: Mike Green, John Carlson, Karl Alzner, Jeff Schultz, John Erskine, Sean Collins and Tyler Sloan.

Forwards: Jason Chimera, Matt Hendricks, Matt Bradley, Eric Fehr, Jay Beagle and D.J. King.

Goaltenders: Michal Neuvirth and Semyon Varlamov

--This is the first skate that defenseman Tom Poti, who has been trying to return from a nagging groin muscle pull that’s held him out of the lineup for all but 21 games and since early January, hasn’t taken part in roughly 10 days.

Poti fell yesterday during a game of three-on-three with the scratches, though, and left the ice at that time. Will get an update on him today.

--I’ll be hosting another Capitals chat Friday afternoon in advance of Game 2 against the Rangers at 2 p.m. Submit your early questions here and return to that same link when the chat goes live.
