Tomas Vokoun named third star of the week

Capitals goaltender Tomas Vokoun was named the NHL’s third star of the week Monday, after winning three straight games in the past seven days to help the team extend its franchise-best start to 7-0-0.

Vokoun is 6-0-0 and boasts a .944 save percentage, but in three wins against Florida, Philadelphia and Detroit, the 35-year-old Czech has a .968 save percentage. Vokoun stopped 92 of the 95 shots he faced during that stretch.

Earning first and second star of the week honors were Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick and Ottawa’s Jason Spezza. Check out the full release here.
