Tomas Vokoun to start against Predators

Tomas Vokoun was the first goaltender off the ice this morning and will start against his former team Tuesday night in Nashville. Vokoun was a Predator for seven seasons from 1998-99 to 2006-07 and will make his first regular-season appearance against them as a Capital tonight at Bridgestone Arena.

In the opposite net will be Pekka Rinne, who has never faced the Capitals in his career. Rinne is 8-4-3 this season with a .929 save percentage and 2.28 goals-against average.

— Mathieu Perreault took part in extra work this morning so it looks like he will be the healthy scratch among the Capitals’ forwards.

— Both Roman Hamrlik and John Erskine reassured reporters that they are ready to play against the Predators.

— All of the players who made the trip — Mike Green (right groin strain) and Jay Beagle (concussion) did not travel with the team — took part in the morning skate.

— Coach Bruce Boudreau rarely takes to the ice for the Capitals morning skates, as they’re typically run by assistant coaches Dean Evason and Bob Woods. Tuesday morning, however, Boudreau was out on the ice in Nashville.

“We were going to do something but their [Nashville’s] coaches were watching so we decided against it,” Boudreau said.
