Tomas Vokoun to start tonight in Nashville

Tomas Vokoun is expected to start tonight in Joel Ward’s return to Nashville. The Caps are 1-2-1 thus far in the preseason with two exhibition games remaining.

The rest of the lineup should look something like this:

Forwards
Semin-Backstrom-Ward
Laich-Perreault-Brouwer
Chimera-Sjogren-Knuble
King-Eakin-Beagle

Defense
Alzner-Carlson
Schultz-Green
McNeill-Collins

Goalies
Vokoun
Neuvirth

According to the roster for tonight’s contest, Chris Bourque and Dmitry Orlov will also make the trip, perhaps as extras.

For players like Mattias Sjogren, Mathieu Perreault and Cody Eakin, this could be their best/last chance to show Bruce Boudreau something.

The coach acknowledged after the morning skate that another round of cuts could come as soon as tomorrow. There are 29 players in camp and Boudreau would like to see that number get much closer to the roster maximum of 23 sooner rather than later.

“There’s a lot of things settled in my mind; it’s up to them to change my mind,” Boudreau said. “I’ve got an idea of what the [opening night] lineup is going to be. We’ve got these three games and the only difference is if someone changes my mind [either] positively or negatively.”

Boudreau added: "Twenty-nine guys is an awful lot to practice with."
