Coach Bruce Boudreau said during his pre-game comments to the media that a decision would be made on Jeff Schultz's status after the warm-up skate, but the towering Capitals' defenseman took part in line rushes and looked like he might indeed return against the Montreal Canadiens.
Schultz missed the past nine games with a fractured right thumb after being hit by a shot in a Dec. 6 game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He skated in a pairing with John Erskine during the warm-up session so it looks like if Schultz will return Boudreau has elected to keep the pairing of Scott Hannan and Mike Green together for the time being.
Based on warm-up here's what the lineup should look like:
Forwards
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
Laich-Aucoin-Semin
Chimera-Beagle-Fehr
Hendricks-Steckel-A.Gordon
Defense
Hannan-Green
Alzner-Carlson
Schultz-Erskine
Goal
Varlamov
Neuvirth
Scratches: Mathieu Perreault (broken nose), Marcus Johansson (undisclosed) and Tyler Sloan.
