Alex Ovechkin’s Dynamo Moscow captured a 3-2 shootout win over Ak Bars Kazan Wednesday, with the star left wing helping to pave the way.

Ovechkin recorded a secondary assist on a power-play goal that allowed Dynamo Moscow to tie the game at 2 and he scored on a backhander in the shootout. In three games with Dynamo Moscow, Ovechkin has recorded three points (1G, 2A), 21 shots on goal and an average of over 21 minutes per contest.

Other items of note:

Earlier this week, Capitals goaltender Michal Neuvirth made his debut in the Czech Extraliga with HC Sparta Praha. He recorded 34 saves in a 3-2 loss to Ceske Budejovice Tuesday and our friends over at Russian Machine have plenty of pictures, including one of Neuvirth’s new mask, which features Capitals great and current associate goaltending coach Olie Kolzig.

In the latest lockout twist: Nail Yakupov, the first overall pick in 2012, is not allowed to play in the KHL because he still has a contract with the OHL’s Sarnia Sting. (ESPN New York)

Remember the comments made by Red Wings vice president Jim Devellano? He spoke of “unwritten rules” regarding offer sheets to restricted free agents, which would amount to collusion, in that interview with Island Sports News. CBC’s Elliotte Friedman takes a look at the implications of Devellano’s comment and whether it might allow the NHLPA to pursue a grievance against the league.
