President Barack Obama appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Wednesday, and during a Q&A session, a viewer asked if he could pull some strings to help resolve the NHL lockout.
“You know, I do have a comment on this,” Obama said. ”Every time these things happen I just want to remind the owners and the players, you guys make money because you’ve got a whole bunch of fans out there who are working really hard, they buy tickets, they’re watching on TV. Y’all should be able to figure this out. Get this done.”
Thursday marks the 40th day of the NHL’s lockout, as well as the league’s deadline to reach a new collective bargaining agreement in order to save a full 82-game season.
At this point, hope of a full 2012-13 season is all but extinguished following Wednesday’s comments by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman that an 82-game schedule “will not be a reality.”
