The Capitals took to the ice for their first official practice under the guidance of Coach Adam Oates Sunday to the chants of “C-A-P-S, CAPS, CAPS, CAPS!” from the packed stands at the team’s practice facility in Arlington.

There was one noticeable absence from the group on the ice, though, as Brooks Laich did not take part in the session. Laich, who brushed off questions about his health last week, is nursing an apparent groin injury. On Saturday night, TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported that the forward is expected to miss the first week or two of the season.

Here’s what the lines and pairings looked like in the first practice:

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Johansson

Wolski-Ribeiro-Brouwer

Chimera-Beagle-Ward-Wilson

Hendricks-Perreault-Fehr-Crabb

Defense

Alzner-Carlson

Green-Hamrilk

Schultz-Erskine

Hillen-Schilling

Goal: Holtby, Neuvirth
