Mathieu Perreault is back in the lineup for the Capitals after sitting out the past five games as a healthy scratch. From his view in the press box, Perreault said he believes the team needs a kick of desperation.

“I think we have to play a little bit more desperate and tell ourselves that, ‘Boy, if we lose this one, we’re out of the playoffs,’” Perreault said. “I think guys would come hard and play so much harder. I think that’s what we need; we need that desperation to get on the ice and feel like we have to win every single game to make the playoffs. And it’s basically what it is right now. We need to go on a run and win so many games.”

Marcus Johansson is a healthy scratch for the third time this season. Among the defensemen, John Erskine returns after serving his three game suspension while Roman Hamrlik and Tom Poti (upper body) are out as scratches.
