Alex Ovechkin was struck in the chin by a puck during Capitals practice Thursday morning and needed 22 stitches to close the gaping wound.

“He went to get stitches, part of the job,” Coach Adam Oates said.

Ovechkin was taking part in a two-on-one drill and when Braden Holtby stopped his shot the rebound popped up and hit him in the face. Washington’s star winger didn’t suffer any serious harm from the errant puck but was sporting a nasty gash on his chin, which he shared with the world on his Twitter account.

“It’s hockey ))) hahaha,” Ovechkin wrote in the tweet shortly after leaving practice. Once doctors had closed the wound Ovechkin shared a photo of his newly mended chin. “After hockey!! 22 stitches hahaha )))”

Ovechkin is currently riding a six-game point streak (six goals, four assists) and has scored in five of those contests.

And here are the before and after tweets of Ovechkin’s chin.
