Brooks Laich takes part in Capitals practice

September 19, 2013

It took until the eighth day of training camp, but the Capitals are finally able to practice with their full complement of players.

Brooks Laich is taking part in practice with teammates for the first time since Sept. 12, when he took himself off the ice because of a left hip flexor injury, and is participating fully in drills.

He’s skating as the left wing on what appears to be a feasible second-line possibility for the Capitals with Mikhail Grabovski and Troy Brouwer. That group will need time to gel, though, seeing as this is only Grabovski’s second practice with teammates in Washington since his visa situation was resolved.

“You don’t want anybody hurt, anybody missing,” Coach Adam Oates said earlier this week. “You want all your guys to have as much time as possible. Injuries are part of the game and [Grabovski] had a visa issue. But there’s still plenty of time for him and Brooksie to get acclimated for the start of the season.”
