BUFFALO – The Capitals recalled Ryan Stoa from the Hershey Bears Tuesday and he will take part in the team’s morning skate at First Niagara Center.
That Washington summoned another center from the AHL certainly suggests that the team, already without Mikhail Grabovski (left ankle), will be missing another forward against the Sabres Tuesday night — perhaps veteran Brooks Laich.
Laich, who has been limited by a lingering groin injury over the past two seasons, did not practice with the team Monday but did travel to Buffalo. While Coach Adam Oates said Monday he expected Laich to be available against the Sabres, the forward’s status could have changed.
Stoa, 26, has never suited up for the Capitals and hasn’t appeared in the NHL since 2010-11 when he appeared in 25 games for the Colorado Avalanche. He has appeared in 37 NHL games in his career, all with the Avalanche.
In Hershey this season, Stoa (6-4, 224 pounds) has recorded nine goals and 24 points in 36 games.
Updates to follow once the morning skate wraps up in Buffalo.
