The Washington Capitals have announced their 2014-15 preseason schedule, an eight-game slate featuring two Metro Division rivals and the standard four home games at Verizon Center.
The exhibitions begin on Sept. 21 against Buffalo at home and end on Oct. 5, also at home, against Carolina. The regular-season slate is expected to be announced on Sunday. The Capitals have yet to learn their opponent for the Winter Classic game on New Years’ Day, at a yet-to-be-announced location.
Earlier this month, a team spokesman confirmed that the Capitals would forgo the Baltimore Hockey Classic this season after two years of slipshod building conditions that drew criticism from reporters and players alike. Washington had played in the event during the 2011 and 2013 preseasons; this season, all four home games – Buffalo, Boston, Philadelphia and Carolina – will be played in the District.
The schedule also features two back-to-back sets. Last season, the Capitals were unbeaten (4-0-4) in their exhibition games. Per team notes, their all-time record in the preseason is 147-115-33-10. According to Washington, the television broadcast schedule will be announced in September. All games are broadcast on 106.7 The Fan.
