Virginia forward Mike Scott has received a medical hardship waiver from the ACC, giving him another year of eligibility.
Scott missed 21 games last season, his fourth in Charlottesville, with an ankle injury that required two operations. In the 10 games he played, Scott averaged a team-best 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game and had six double-doubles.
With Scott gone for most of the season, Virginia ranked 315th out of 345 Division I teams and last in the ACC in offensive rebounding percentage (26.7 percent) and ninth in the ACC in field goal percentage defense (opponents shot 43.7 percent). His return will provide an immediate boost to the Cavaliers’ front court next season.
