Virginia QB Michael Rocco, CB Maurice Canady earn ACC player of the week honors

For a second-straight week, a Virginia victory meant two players earned ACC player of the week honors. This time, it was junior quarterback Michael Rocco and freshman cornerback Maurice Canady who were honored by the league for their play in the Cavaliers’ dramatic, 41-40 win over Miami Saturday.

Rocco was awarded the ACC’s offensive back of the week award after he completed 29 of his 37 passes for 300 yards and four touchdowns against the Hurricanes. He also capped off the game-winning, 87-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jake McGee with six seconds left in the fourth quarter, part of an afternoon in which he set a school record with 18 consecutive completions and set career highs in completions and touchdowns.

For a second week in a row, Canady was named the co-defensive back of the week after finishing with nine tackles and forcing a crucial fourth-quarter fumble. It was Canady’s second-straight start at cornerback, and he has been honored by the ACC both times.
