About This Blog

Celebritology is a hobby almost all of us engage in -- consciously or not. Some unapologetically subscribe to People, Us and are regulars watchers of Entertainment Tonight, while others eschew all celeb-centric news, dismissing it as the worst by-product of our collective culture and any attention paid to the galaxy of stars as base voyeurism. But it is our culture and somewhere betwixt the two ends of the continuum are the stories to which we are all drawn -- in admiration or disdain: A royal wedding, a Michael Jackson trial, Tom Cruise's take on psychology or Sean Penn's Op-eds on the war in Iraq. You may worship them, you may despise them -- but we all have an opinion on them.

Each day, this blog will highlight the middle of the continuum -- the stories we're all talking about -- and open a dialogue about why they're so compelling. But we won't be confined to celebrities. Movies, books, comics, the Internet... If something's creating a disturbance in the pop culture force, it's in the blog.

To get the dialogue part rolling, share your comments on each post. Or, e-mail me at if you have tips, ideas for stories or general suggestions.

(Apologies to anyone who thought Celebritology would be some clever mash up of horoscopes and celebrity birthdays.)

About the Author
In addition to monitoring the ups, downs and in-betweens of celebrities, Liz produces both Gene Weingarten's and Carolyn Hax's weekly live discussions. She is uniquely qualified to write this blog because of her alarming interest in celebrities and pop culture -- and because Sandra Bullock, Shirley MacLaine and Warren Beatty attended her high school (not at the same time, but still...)
