‘Anchorman 2’: The plot involves ... a custody battle?

We knew as of two weeks ago that there would be a sequel to “Anchorman.” We even had a few ideas about what that sequel should be called. (For the record, I like DCLocal20’s suggestion, “Ron Burgundy: Full Bodied.”) But what we didn’t know were plot details for the second chapter in the Ron Burgundy saga.

Well, Adam McKay — director and co-writer of “Anchorman 2” — has spilled a couple of small beans on that front.

In a radio interview and a piece featured on Salon.com, McKay tells writer David Sirota that the Action News Team comedy will involve a custody battle.

“Keep in mind we’re still writing the story, but I’ll say one phrase for you: custody battle,” he said. “I’ll give you that. I’ll give you one other one: bowling for dollars.”

This being McKay, a CFoWF (Close Friend of Will Ferrell), it’s hard to know whether he’s serious, half-serious or totally blowing smoke up our Sex Panthers. But if he’s one of those first two, I am going to guess that Ron Burgundy gets into a battle for custody of Ling Wong’s baby panda from the first film. And I’ll further guess that he hosts a bowling-for-dollars-style fundraiser to help raise money for his legal bills.

Sure, this is pure conjecture and speculation. But conjecture and speculation by bloggers at major media outlets can only help McKay’s and Ferrell’s writing process. Am I right?

Fine. The least I can do is post a video clip from “Bowling for Dollars” for those who were confused by McKay’s “Bowling for Dollars” reference because they’re too young to remember ”Bowling for Dollars.” Check it out below; I’m pretty sure the host is a distant cousin of Ron Burgundy.
