On NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” Aziz Ansari’s character Tom Haverford probably wouldn’t dirty his Brooks Brothers boys’ suit by mowing a lawn.
But in real life, Ansari was willing to help the Central Park Conservatory with the “first mow” of Sheep Meadow before it reopens to the public this weekend.
“When I initially agreed to do this, I thought it would be later in the day and I would be getting a key to the city. Instead it’s really early and I’m getting a key to the city’s lawn mower,” Ansari joked. “I’ll put that along with the other city keys I have: the key to the city’s juicer, the key to the city’s vacuum cleaner and — of course — the key to the city’s Showtime Rotisserie Grill.”
In addition to the key, he also got more press for his new comedy special, “Dangerously Delicious,” which he released online for $5. He talked about the the special on NPR’s Fresh Air.
