After a 16-year absence from behind the camera, Barbra Streisand is ready to return to directing.
The EGOT legend is set to direct Cate Blanchett and Colin Firth in “Skinny and Cat,” a film about the relationship between photographer Margaret Bourke-White and author Erskine Caldwell, the Los Angeles Times and Showbiz 411 reported.
Sounds great, right? There is one problem standing in the way: Money.
Streisand talked about the project at a Cedars-Sinai Medical Center dedication ceremony last week, the Los Angeles Times reported. She donated $10 million and helped raise $12 million more for the hospital's Women’s Heart Center, which has now been named in her honor.
Of raising money for “Skinny and Cat,” Streisand lamented, according to the LA Times, “This is hard to raise money for?. .. I’m just in shock. Hollywood has changed so much. It’s about a woman ahead of her time. It’s just a fascinating story that is very relevant to today. I may have to pick up the phone again.”
Showbiz 411 has more details, including that production is set to begin in January 2013.
Streisand last directed the 1996 film, “The Mirror Has Two Faces.” As an actress, Streisand was last seen in 2010’s “Little Fockers.”
