Ben Affleck: The next Tom Buchanan?

Ben Affleck is in talks to play Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D adaptation of “The Great Gatsby,” Deadline reports. The rumored cast is rounded out by Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy, Tom’s wife, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway.
Despite the casting rumors, it’s not clear when “Gatsby” will begin filming. In March, Luhrmann told New York Magazine’s Vulture blog that he’s “not doing ‘Gatsby’ right now for this reason. Because despite what might be out there, I have made no comment about anything.” He went on to say that he’s essentially keeping things under wraps while the film’s in development.
Tom was played by Bruce Dern in the 1974 Jack Clayton version, which also starred Mia Farrow, Robert Redford and Sam Waterston. What do you think of the rumored “Gatsby” cast thus far? Tell us in the comments.
