BET Awards 2012: Beyoncé vs. Jay-Z and Kanye West, times two

Jay-Z and Beyonce: BET competitors. (Al Bello - GETTY IMAGES)

The nominees for this year’s BET Awards have been revealed and, not surprisingly, Kanye West and Beyoncé lead the field of contenders. In other significant news about this upcoming awards show, Chris Brown has been confirmed as a performer, which also means we should not be surprised if Twitter erupts into another epic battle dubbed Team Breezy vs. the Rest of the World.

But that’s not what we should focus on right now. What we need to pay close attention to is the Video of the Year category,

What we have here is a match that pits Beyoncé against her own husband, Jay-Z, and Kanye West, not once but twice. It’s one of three categories in which there is some competition between these artists, the other two being best collaboration and video director of the year (both Beyoncé and Kanye are nominated in the latter category). But in the music video race, it’s like a double Beyoncé/double “Watch the Throne” whammy.

The video nominees are:

Beyoncé for “Countdown

Beyoncé again for “Love on Top

Jay-Z and Kanye West for “N----- in Paris”

Jay-Z and Kanye West (hit me two times!) for “Otis

Oh yeah. And Usher. For “Climax.” But he probably won’t win.

This all paves the way for one of the following scenarios to occur:

Scenario 1: Kanye West rises to the podium: “Imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos — two, actually — of all time... what? She won? Oh, my bad.”

Scenario 2: Kanye West rises to the podium: “Imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos — two, actually — of all time... wait a minute, Jay and I just won. So I’m interrupting myself. What is going ON?”

Either way it should be something special. So don’t forget to watch the whole ceremony, but especially the video of the year part, on BET come July 1.
