Betty White asked to Marine Corps ball (Update); Justin Timberlake accepts his invitation (Video)

Update: Sad news. Betty White had declined Sgt. Lewis’s invitation because of work. “As everyone knows I love a man in uniform,” White said in a statement. “But unfortunately, I cannot accept, as I will be taping an episode of ‘Hot in Cleveland.’ ”

Another day, another celebrity invitation to a Marine Corps ball.

Now it’s Sgt. Ray Lewis, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and a hip-hop artist, asking “the all around perfect woman” to be his date. He’s speaking, of course, of Betty White. Sadly, the actress, who is 89 years young, had to decline the invite because she’ll be taping “Hot in Cleveland.”

Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake accepted Cpl. Kelsey De Santis’s invitation to attend a Marine Corps ball with her. “I don’t get asked out — ever,” he said of the invite at a “Friend With Benefits” press conference. At the same event, his co-star, Mila Kunis, set the record straight about her date with Sgt. Scott Moore. (Yes, she’s going.)

Timberlake explained why they accepted the invites of Monday’s “Today” show: “We want to pay honor to our country and embrace their balls.”

Which celebrity will be asked next? Wager a guess in the comments.
