Bobby Brown on Whitney Houston’s drug use: ‘I didn’t know she was struggling with it still’

The first part of the “Today” show’s interview with Bobby Brown about the death of his ex-wife Whitney Houston aired Wednesday, with the singer claiming he had no knowledge of her continued drug use.

In an interview with Matt Lauer, which was released in part earlier this week, Brown said he did not introduce Houston to narcotics and was not responsible for her death.

Cocaine, marijuana and prescription drugs were found in the singer’s system at the time of her death in February. In 2009, Houston told Oprah Winfrey she began using drugs heavily after “The Bodyguard” was released in 1992. “Because I knew then we were trying to hide pain,” Houston said, presumably, of she and Brown. “I was trying to hide the pain.”

Brown told Lauer he did not know Houston was once again using cocaine, saying he saw Houston a week before her death, and she “looked really well.”

“I was hurt,” Brown told Lauer of the revelation. “I didn’t know she was struggling with it still.”

Part two of the interview airs Thursday. Watch part one of the interview below for more about their marriage, and how Brown wonders if he could have helped Houston more.
