Rumors that Carlos Santana had died began to spread on Twitter Thursday, despite the fact that the famed guitarist is very much alive.
Celebrity death rumors have unfortunately become commonplace in the digital age, but Santana’s has a distinct honor, or I should say dishonor: He was being confused with Moammar Gaddafi, the deposed Libyan leader who died yesterday.
“R.I.P. Carlos Santana” was retweeted many times over, accompanied by photos of the late dictator (one is shown below.)
There seem to be three types of people tweeting about Santana. Those who believe that he is actually dead, fans who are furious about the rumor, and others who are having a laugh. The majority are in the latter category.
The fact remains: Santana is alive, Gaddafi is dead. Do they really look like each other? That’s for you to decide.
