Since Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” began its journey up the Billboard Hot 100 and into the hearts of people worldwide, I’ve been trying to figure out why people like this silly song.

The Post’s music critic Chris Richards called the tune the front-runner for “Song of the Summer,” while Maura Judkis at the Style Blog said it is undeniably the “viral hit of the season.” Indeed, it has been covered by James Franco, Katy Perry and a number of sports teams.Even President Obama “covered” the song.

While I may never understand why“Call Me Maybe” has been so universally embraced, I’m starting to appreciate it thanks to two new versions. The first is by Tay Zonday, who set the Internet ablaze with his 2007 song “Chocolate Rain.” The second is by former secretary of state Colin Powell on CBS’s “This Morning.”

Watch them below.
