Demi Lovato: Club promoters gave me alcohol, drugs

Demi Lovato. (Joel Ryan - AP)
Demi Lovato has made a troubling, if not surprising, claim about how members of young Hollywood get their hands on drugs and alcohol.

In an interview with Fabulous magazine, Lovato talked about her struggles with depression, bullying, self-harm and an eating disorder, which culminated in a rehab stint when she was 18. The singer, now 19, explained that she used drugs and alcohol to deal with her loneliness. It was, apparently, easy for her to obtain the substances.

“Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs,” she told Fabulous. “They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my [expletive.]”

She continued, “I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun. Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says ‘no.’ That’s why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me.”

Lovato, who is currently on tour in South America promoting her third album, “Unbroken,” told Fabulous she is no longer drinking. But as she bravely admitted in an MTV special, she still battles self-harm and bulimia.
