Drew Barrymore never released a statement announcing her pregnancy. But anyone who glanced at the Barrymore-holding-a-sonogram pictures or red carpet photos starring her swelling belly could see that she and her husband, Will Kopelman, whom she wed in June, were expecting their first child together.
Now Barrymore and Kopelman have finally broken their silence on this matter to announce that, hey, guess what, they have a baby.
Their daughter, Olive Barrymore Kopelman, was born Wednesday, according to a statement the couple released Monday to People magazine.
Anyone well-versed in the Barrymore filmography may have had the same reaction that I did to the name Olive: Drew Barrymore named her child after the character she voiced in the 1999 holiday special, “Olive the Other Reindeer”?
It’s unclear whether that was the specific inspiration, but Barrymore, in a manner of speaking, definitely shares her baby girl’s moniker. Which is kind of cute.
Fine, maybe Gertie would have been a little cuter. But Olive is still sweet.
