George Clooney, making the rounds in D.C. to raise awareness about Sudan conflict

If anyone in Washington, D.C. is feeling a disruption in the celebrity force, they could be sensing the presence of George Clooney .

The Oscar winner is in town today to continue his attempts to raise concerns about a possible political division in the Sudan that he and others believe may lead to more civil war in the troubled nation. In advance of a closely watched January vote on a referendum that could divide north and south Sudan, he is reportedly meeting with Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) as well as President Obama ; he'll also make a presentation this evening at the Council on Foreign Relations, where Celebritology will be on the scene.

Clooney appeared on this morning's "Today" show to bring more attention to the issue. Whenever this guy speaks out on a subject, people listen. And clearly he knows that, which is why he often uses his fame to raise awareness. The question is whether Americans will feel engaged enough to get involved on some level, especially at a time when many may be so focused on their shaky economic situations that they can't be bothered with international affairs.

Does Clooney's involvement make you want to learn more about the crisis, remind you to pay closer attention to it or have no impact? Post a comment and let us know.
