Giuliana Rancic will undergo a double mastectomy to treat her breast cancer, she told the “Today” show Monday.

The E! News host announced her diagnosis on the NBC morning show in October. Rancic underwent a double lumpectomy later that month and said she planned to undergo radiation.

But after the lumpectomy failed to remove all of the cancer from one of her breasts, the TV personality said she made the decision to remove both of her breasts and undergo reconstruction surgery.

“At the end, all it came down to was just choosing to live and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life,” Rancic, joined by her husband Bill, said Monday.

The surgery will take place next week, according to E!

In a statement to E!, Rancic said she hopes to take “the stigma away” from the word “mastectomy.”

“After doing research and seeing the advancements, the surgery has come a long way from 20 years ago. The results can be incredible,” she told E! “Not only can it save your life, but you can come out feeling healthier and with a positive self-image.”

Rancic once again thanked her fans for their support and urged other women to be screened for the disease.

“I couldn’t be more at peace with the decision,” Rancic told Curry. “But it was hard. And I still break down some nights when it’s quiet in bed. ... But I’m okay.”
