Heidi Klum and Seal confirm split: ‘We have grown apart’

Heidi Klum and Seal have confirmed that their seven-year marriage is over.

“While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate,” the couple said in a statement, according to the Associated Press. “We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.”

Klum, the supermodel host of “Project Runway,” and the “Kiss from a Rose” singer began dating in 2003 and wed in 2005. They have four children — Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2. Seal adopted Leni, Klum’s daughter from a previous relationship, in 2009.

TMZ was first to report Klum’s plans to file for divorce. Even without confirmation, this sent the Twitter-sphere into a spiral of sadness over the weekend. Of the many surprising celebrity splits of late, the demise of Klum’s and Seal’s seemingly great marriage — they renewed their vows yearly and wore wacky Halloween costumes together! — cemented the fact that no Hollywood relationship is sacred.

Jezebel writer Erin Gloria Ryan wondered in a tweet what could be done to save this marriage: “The internet should be doing more to stop the divorce of Heidi Klum and Seal. Can't we black out Wikipedia or something?”

Unfortunately, it sounds like Klum and Seal have already made up their minds.
