Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz perform ‘I Wish It Was Christmas Today’ on ‘SNL’ once again (Video)

As our own Jen Chaney already noted, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned for an epic “Weekend Update” joke-off segment with Fallon and current head writer, Seth Meyers. Rachel Dratch also made an appearance to revive the “Sully and Denise” sketch. While both moments were great, neither was my favorite part of the reunion-heavy show.

That would be the return of Horatio Sanz, Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan for another performance of the weird and wonderful holiday song, “I Wish It Was Christmas Today.” The tune has now been performed, by my count, five times on NBC, with each one more delightful than the last. Check out all of the performances below.

The original performance in 2000 was a bit of a mess. Fallon could not seem strike the right keys on the piano and he was, naturally, giggling the whole time.

The foursome, once again dressed in matching outfits, performed a cleaner version of the song the following year.

After Fallon, Kattan and Morgan left the show, Sanz performed the song in 2004 with very special guests, the Muppets.

Then in 2010, Fallon and Sanz brought the song back on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” with the Strokes singer Julian Casablancas and the Roots joining in.

On “SNL” this weekend, the original crew, featuring a much skinnier Horatio Sanz and less giggly Jimmy Fallon, performed the song again to what sounded like a very happy audience. And let’s be honest, the song isn’t the same without Kattan doing his back-and-forth head movements and Morgan doing — whatever it is that he’s doing.
