Jon Voight popped up at Thursday’s L.A. premiere of Angelina Jolie’s “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” the actress’s directorial debut. Ordinarily, a father demonstrating support for his daughter would be a touching, non-noteworthy gesture. But nothing is ever simple in the relationship between Jolie and Voight.
The Hollywood Reporter has published a story that says Voight — who famously and tearfully attempted to reach out to Jolie during an installment of “Access Hollywood” back in 2002— crashed the premiere uninvited.
“While Angelina kept a polite smile on her face, the awkwardness was palpable to those in the know,” THR reports “And the producers were absolutely furious about his behavior.”
But Voight’s side tells a different story.
His manager, Dorothy Koster, says Jolie called and invited her father to come. “She wanted him to be there,” she tells THR.
The two reportedly are no longer on bad terms, having reconciled last year.
In the video below, shot by the Associated Press, Voight paused at last night’s premiere to chat with reporters on the red carpet and said, “You’re looking at a proud Daddy.” He added that he had not yet seen Jolie’s finished film.
Cameras also caught the two hugging while photographers and videographers shouted “Jon and Angie!” in an effort to capture a daddy/daughter moment. Jolie did indeed smile politely; any evidence of ”palpable” awkwardness was not terribly apparent. Then again, maybe we just aren’t “in the know.”
Watch and see what you think, after gazing at the requisite Brangelina red carpet shot.
