Kanye West debuted his second collection at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, answering the question of whether it would be better than his first with a yes, according to some fashion writers.
Last year, critics were not that impressed by West’s first ill-fitting effort, as Cara Kelly reported. The rapper was so wounded by the criticism that, according to the New York Times’s Eric Wilson, he banned editors from previewing his new line at the last minute.
Christina Binkley of the Wall Street Journal criticized West’s latest collection for being too “Givenchy-esque” but gave the rapper credit: “This Kanye collection is a massive improvement.”
Robin Givhan, currently of the Daily Beast and formerly of The Washington Post, also noted the Givenchy connection and found the clothes “overly reliant on pelts.” She did, however, praise West for having the clothes actually fit the models.
The Guardian’s Jess Cartner-Morley writes that West included all of the fall’s biggest trends but failed to show “an original point of view.”
Even with the tepid reaction, I’m sure there’s a market for women’s clothing made of fur and leather. (Hey, Kim Kardashian!) Check out a few of the looks below.
