Kate’s navy dress vs. navy dress

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge — or simply Kate — and Prince William have officially touched down in North America, kicking off Kate’s Canada/U.S. Fashion Tour of 2011.

Sure, the royal newlyweds are spending the next 11 days on our continent to engage in some pleasant diplomacy and sightseeing. But for royal watchers, the whole event provides the perfect excuse for avid assessment of Kate’s fashion choices.

Already, the duchess does not disappoint. She boarded a plane this morning at Heathrow wearing a business-like navy dress and blazer, designed by Canadian Smythe Les Vestes. She exited the plane in Ottowa, wearing a navy-and-white, lacy-sleeved crepe shift from another Canadian designer, Erdem Moralioglu, according to People.

Wow, already a costume change? She’s clearly working this tour like Cher, minus (presumably) the music of Cher, plus the pomp and sophistication of British royalty. So, which dress do you like better? Compare them after the jump, then vote for your favorite.

Because Kate works just like the People’s Choice Awards and “American Idol” — her decisions depend on your votes.

When she isn’t at a movie theater or writing about movies, Jen Chaney is ... um ... probably at home, watching a movie.
