Katy Perry, Adele lead MTV Video Music Award nominations

Let’s hear it for the girls. Katy Perry leads the MTV Video Music Awards nomination count, shooting like a “Firework” to the top of the pack with nine. Following close behind are Adele and Kanye West, who earned seven nominations each.

Both Adele and Perry are nominated in the video of the year category for “Rolling in the Deep” and “Firework,” respectively, along with the Beastie Boys for “Make Some Noise,” Bruno Mars for “Grenade” and Tyler, the Creator for “Yonkers.”

So how did Lady Gaga and music’s other divas fare? Mama Monster earned three nominations, including one for best female video, as did Beyonce and Nicki Minaj.
