Keith Richards says the Beatles and the Rolling Stones weren’t rivals

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards made it clear that there was no rivalry between his band and the Beatles on last night’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” When Fallon asked whether the two chart-topping bands hated each other, Richards said “It was totally the opposite.”

“Paul or John would call us up and say, ‘We’ve got a single. We’ve got “Day Tripper,” but it’s not mixed yet.’ And we’d say ‘Well, we’ve got “Paint It Black” finished.’ And so it was like, ‘Okay you go first,’ ” Richards said. Oh, to be a fly on the wall when they had those conversations!

Fallon has ben lucky enough to have former Beatle Paul McCartney on his show, where they sang “Scrambled Eggs,” the original title of “Yesterday.”
